I have read a few articles and listened to a few podcasts on the topic and I am still in awe that RIAA and NAB had the audacity to even think such a thing would work! Sadly, it still might though.
Mandating that all mobile devices be able to broadcast FM Radio is about as much ANTI-choice as it gets … If they are so damn worried about “more market” choices and people listening to the radio, just buy each American a radio and convince people who broadcast music at their public locations to use radio stations instead of satellite or recorded music!
Just because it’s there doesn’t mean that people will use it, care to have it in there or make our devices any better – My cell phone has dozens of options I will never use simply because I don’t care to use them and if FM radio AND MP3 Player options exist, I am going with MY SELECTION of music any day.
